Sleepless Nights

What do women think when they decide to have a baby??! Can they really fathom the complete exhaustion one has to endure? Or the absolute helplessness when the baby cries and one has no idea why or how to calm him down (and every trick from the "Happiest Baby in the Block" fails? Or the fact that one has no strength to do anything beyond sleep, eat, and feed the baby (I am disappointed - I am not "superwoman" anymore)? I definitely did not think about the consequences of having a baby... at all. And yes, I do believe there is a hormone somewhere that makes women forget... forget what it is like to carry a baby in the womb for 10 months (yes, it is 10 months... not 9!), forget what it is like to go through labor, and definitely forget the first month after birth! There is no way any sane woman would want to do this again if they vividly remembered every detail.

Despite all my whining (will somebody pass the cheese? ;-)), I must admit, the sheer joy of watching Vedant's every little expression, the creativity at guessing what he must be thinking or what he wants, the thrill at watching every new move - be it a new sleeping position, a new facial expression, a new use for his limbs, or a new cry - is worth all the sleepless nights... and more.

I hope it is like everyone says - "This is only for the first 4-6 weeks... trust me, it does get better".
